Global Spectrum
Through a competitive proposal process, the City of Las Cruces has chosen Global Spectrum, the fastest growing firm in the public assembly management field, to manage and operate the new Las Cruces Convention Center. Global Spectrum manages more than 80 facilities throughout the US and Canada, including 25 convention centers. Global was brought on board in the fall of 2008 to assist the City of Las Cruces and HNTB with designing a facility that would work best for Las Cruces. Global will be responsible for booking and servicing meeting and conventions at the Las Cruces Convention Center. In addition, they will also be working with the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) at New Mexico State University to give students practical work experience in a convention center before they graduate.

HNTB Architecture

Their projects have won numerous awards, including three Grand Conceptor Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies. To facilitate the process and to maintain a connection to the local community, HNTB teamed up with Steve Newby Architects of Las Cruces to assist in incorporating local history, architecture and heritage into the project.

The two staffs will work closely to ensure the needs of every group is met and their experience is the best possible. The bureau will continue to remain active it bringing additional meetings and conventions to Las Cruces to keep current meeting space and hotel rooms full.

The City of Las Cruces
While the day-to-day operations of the convention center will be managed by Global Spectrum, the building will be owned by the City of Las Cruces. Revenue generated through the Convention Center Surcharge will be used to fund the project. The surcharge is assessed to visitors staying overnight in hotels and motels within the Las Cruces city limits.
